WINTER

Looking for an affordable family ski resort in France?
The Massif Central might just be your next destination. Admittedly, the region is still relatively unknown — but in our humble opinion, and that of many French visitors, this is completely unjustified. The Massif Central has enormous potential when it comes to skiing. Many of its peaks rise to nearly 1,900 metres, and its climate is ideal for ensuring good snow conditions throughout the winter months.
Located before the Alps, it is also very easy to reach, meaning far fewer traffic jams than on the way to the Alpine ski resorts.

Located near Clos Saint-Sauves, in the Sancy Massif (home to the highest peaks of the Massif Central), Le Mont-Dore is one of the oldest ski areas in France. With 85 km of slopes — thanks to its connection with Super Besse, the neighbouring ski area — the resort offers plenty of challenges for skiers and snowboarders of all levels. The usual ski season runs from January to the end of March.

Our apartments and gîtes are, of course, available for rent. In the morning, it’s just a 20-minute drive to reach Le Mont-Dore and hit the slopes in no time. If you wish, we can even take care of your ski passes. After a day on the slopes, return to Clos Saint-Sauves to relax — surrounded by nature and far from the hustle and bustle. For more information, simply get in touch with us; we’ll be happy to help. Discover our apartments and gîtes for your ski holiday.

You prefer cross-country skiing, snowshoe hiking, or maybe sledging and dog sledding?

Clos Saint-Sauves is also the perfect base for that — simply because everything is close by.

SPRING/SUMMER/AUTUMN ACTIVITIES IN THE MASSIF DU SANCY

Spring and summer are wonderful seasons to discover the Massif du Sancy, one of the most beautiful natural areas in the Auvergne. With its rolling volcanic landscapes, mountain peaks, lakes and vast open spaces, the region offers a wide range of outdoor activities, all at a relaxed and unspoilt pace. Thanks to its central location within the Parc Naturel Régional des Volcans d’Auvergne, Clos Saint-Sauves is an ideal base for exploring the area. Many activities start just a short drive away, allowing you to combine active days outdoors with peaceful moments back at your gîte.

Hiking, walking & nature

The Massif du Sancy is a true paradise for walkers and hikers. Thanks to well-marked trails, you can explore this unique region of volcanoes, forests, vast high-altitude plateaus and streams. In spring, the meadows are carpeted with wildflowers (including gentian, from which a local liqueur is made); in summer, the higher elevations offer stunning views and a pleasantly cool climate.

We can recommend hikes for all levels, from gentle family walks to more challenging mountain routes. We have personally tested them all.

Lakes, rivers & outdoor leisure

On warmer days, you can cool off in mountain lakes, rivers or designated swimming areas. The region also offers opportunities for fishing, canoeing, paragliding and other outdoor activities, all in a natural and uncrowded setting.

Cycling & mountain biking

Road cyclists and mountain bikers will find plenty to enjoy. Quiet roads wind through valleys and over scenic mountain passes, while numerous trails are suitable for mountain biking or e-biking. Whether you’re looking for a sportive challenge or a leisurely ride, the landscape is varied and rewarding.
